volume, media, suspend keys not working in GDM

Hi folks,
I have a Logitech wireless keyboard with a variety of function keys (vol up/down, media controls, and most importantly, SUSPEND). All of these worked great out of the box with GNOME3 as long as I'm logged in, but none of them work from the GDM login prompt. I'd really like to be able to suspend from the login prompt without using the mouse.

Regular keys work fine in GDM. I'm guessing that whatever driver or configuration is required to process the special keys is not loaded until a user logs in. I've done quite a bit of googling on this issue but found nothing (other than a similar question with no solution asked on this forum 3 years ago!)

How can I get these working? Thanks!
