F17 crashes

Hi all!

I have F17 installed both on my laptop and my desktop. On the laptop it works fine, on the desktop it crashes from time to time and I cannot detect a pattern when it does so. How can I find out what the problem is? I browsed some log files but didn't know exactly what to look for.

Any help is greatly aprreciated.

Thanks a lot,
Markus

Re: F17 crashes

Try Fedora 17 in live session (from live usb or cd/dvd). If it crashes on the live session, too, maybe you have to remove/install components. If not crashing maybe the reinstall will solve your problem.

Re: F17 crashes

Which logs have you looked in?

If X or GNOME is crashing, there may be something useful in ~/.xsession-errors or /var/log/Xorg.*.log*. It's always worth checking /var/log/messages, but in the case of a full-on kernel panic, the details are unlikely to ever get as far as the logs unfortunately. How crashed does the system get – can you change virtual consoles with Ctrl+Alt+Fn etc.? Does the mouse still move? Have you enabled Magic SysRq, and if so, does it work?

Re: F17 crashes

Sorry that I didn't give enough info. The crashes happened under Gnome 3 and nothing worked afterwards (I didn't try Magic SysRq though).

However, I am not using Firefox with Adobe's 64 bit Flash plugin for more than a day now and Epiphany instead and haven't had any crahes since then. Maybe this was the problem.

Thanks,
Markus
