Suspend/hibernate hang in FC17 XFCE (unblinking cursor, error 134217730)
Hello everyone,
Recently I installed fedora 17 with the XFCE spin and right out of the box the lappy hangs after I press either the hibernate or suspend buttons, type pm-suspend, or if I type echo mem > /sys/power/state. Everything keeps running and a screen shows up with the error below. The only way out is a hard reboot. None of the buttons work, including CAPS-LOCK. This is my error:
Code:
[ 1509.000075] ata3:00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen
[ 1509.008000] ata3:00: failed command: STANDBY IMMEDIATE

[ 1509.008099] ata3:00: status: { DRDY }
[ 1509.468352] dpm_run_callback(): scsi_bus_suspend+0x0/0x20 returns 134217730
[ 1509.468362] PM: Device 2:0:0:0 failed to suspend async: error 134217730
[ 1509.468419] PM: Some devices failed to suspend
This happens when I run echo mem > /sys/power/state. Thank's in advance.

Yeah it *appears* that your disk interface isn't suspending properly (but maybe that's misleading).
Slamming /sys/power/state is not generally recoverable unless you've saved state and are prepared to re-init the hardware - so that's no surprise.
You really need to debug the pm-suspend or pm-hibernate scripts.
Since you don't want to part with any basic information, like the laptop model or disk & interface - then you can debug it.
Here's your howto
/usr/share/doc/pm-utils-1.4.1/README.debugging
fwiw the pm tools are used by all desktops so it's likely not xfce related.

Thanx. Ill try that. The laptop is an HP Pavillion dv6000 with all factory hardware, I think. I can give you more info but Im not at my computer right now.
EDIT:
This is the disk/interface
Code:
$ lspci | grep interface
00:0d.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation MCP51 IDE (rev f1)
00:0e.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation MCP51 Serial ATA Controller (rev f1)
