Does anyone think Fedora partially-rolling distro? I realize there's rawhide but everytime I go to update all the applications and the kernel are on their latest versions - not just bug fixes - after I've been trying it on VirtualBox and on a seperate HDD just recently. I mean, it does kinda make sense since Fedora is a mostly vanilla distro.
Rolling distro? Not so much, but the current release always gets the benefit of anything that can back-port without too much trouble. There is a definite sweet spot in the life of any fedora release right around the month or so after the release of the latest version.
I used Arch briefly a couple of years ago, just to check it out. That thing rolls like hell. Fedora's nowhere near that pace, and the magnitude of changes seems considerably less at times. From what I remember, anyway.
quick note on this one - the kernel team does have a specific policy, now, of keeping the kernel up to date, which is somewhat different from the policy applied to most packages. the rationale for this is here:
