With all due respect, you can fix it by installing Fedora 9. The repositories for Fedora 5 are long since closed up as Fedora 5 is no longer supported. I'm afraid that the only way to continue to receive updates is with an updated operating system.

Not to my knowledge. If you want to update one or two programs you may be able to find a source to download from but you'll probably run into dependency errors.

Look through the FC5 mirror sites on this list and use the url from anyone you find working to replace the url in your current fedora 5 repo file. Of course, nothing in any of the repos listed on this site will have anything recent.

|
for a server/data-center i would do a fresh install .Using RHEL 5.2 or CentOS or novel suse
that is unless you like doing fresh installs every 6 mo. to a year .If so then install fedora 9 and in a few months then do a fresh install of fedora 10 then next year fedora 11 or 12 ..

On my older system running Fedora 4, I had to change the files in /etc/yum.repos.d/:
from
Quote:
|
baseurl=http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/$releasever/$basearch/os/
|
to
Quote:
|
baseurl=http://archives.fedoraproject.org/pub/archive/fedora/linux/core/$releasever/$basearch/os/
|
If you look under http://archives.fedoraproject.org/pu...ra/linux/core/, you should be able to find the URLs for Extras, Updates, Testing, etc.
Like the others said, there won't be any recent updates, but you should still be able to install needed (older) packages.

Reason: directory is '/etc/yum.repos.d/' instead of '/etc/yum.repos'

Fresh installs aren't absolutely necessary anymore as long as you're only upgrading between two consecutive fedora versions. Just run "preupgrade"

currently fedora 8,9,10 beta are supported , and in a few weeks fedora 8 will no longer be supported.
Fedora 8 will hit it's End Of Life 1 ( one) month after fedora 10 is released .

The change I gave would be applied to /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo for the entry labelled [base].
For /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-extras.repo, I had to change [extras]:
Quote:
|
baseurl=http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/extras/$releasever/$basearch/
|
to
Quote:
|
baseurl=http://archives.fedoraproject.org/pub/archive/fedora/linux/extras/$releasever/$basearch/
|
And for /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-updates.repo, I changed [updates-released]:
Quote:
|
baseurl=http://fedora.redhat.com/download/mirrors/updates-released-fc$releasever
|
to
Quote:
|
baseurl=http://archives.fedoraproject.org/pub/archive/fedora/linux/core/updates/$releasever/$basearch/
|
I made a similar change to the [{base, extras, update}-source] entries, since I sometimes download the source packages.
I didn't change /etc/yum/repos.d/fedora-devel.repo, /etc/yum/repos.d/fedora-extras-devel.repo or /etc/yum/repos.d/fedora-updates-testing.repo. Are those the 6 files you're referring to?
