Re: MATE Desktop for fedora 16 / 17

Fantastic news!

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/MATE-Desktop
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=840149

Good to see so much support behind this project. Lets hope it doesn't go the way of Trinity.
That being said, I think Mate has lost some relevance now that Cinnamon has really taken off and is an official package.

Re: MATE Desktop for fedora 16 / 17

Just installed MATE on Fedora 16 and it is awesome, even faster than XFCE.

Why I'm missing mate-desktop-fedora-new-applications-testing repo? Is this a known bug?

Quote:
yum search compiz --enablerepo=mate-desktop-fedora-new-applications-testing
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit, remove-with-leaves, tidy-cache, versionlock

Error getting repository data for mate-desktop-fedora-new-applications-testing, repository not found

Code:
yum search compiz --enablerepo=mate-desktop-fedora-new-application-testing
works for me, cp this command and try again

Re: MATE Desktop for fedora 16 / 17

Ahh, I had a typo "aplications" instead of "aplication", thanks!

Repo is now working but I get errors installing compiz-mate-gtk, is that the right package for Mate on Fedora 16?

No
root@mother rave]# rpm -qa compiz\*
compiz-plugins-extra-0.8.8-1.fc16.x86_64
compiz-0.8.8-2.fc16.x86_64
compiz-mate-0.8.8-2.fc16.x86_64
compiz-plugins-main-mate-0.8.8-1.fc16.x86_64
compiz-manager-0.6.0-14.fc16.noarch
compizconfig-python-0.8.4-3.fc16.x86_64
compiz-plugins-extra-mate-0.8.8-1.fc16.x86_64
compiz-plugins-unsupported-0.8.8-1.fc16.x86_64
compizconfig-backend-mateconf-0.8.8-2.fc16.x86_64
compiz-plugins-main-0.8.8-1.fc16.x86_64
compiz-plugins-unsupported-mate-0.8.8-1.fc16.x86_64

compiz-mate-gtk is a a 0.9.x version for user who wants to use fedoras fc16 compiz versions.
But i recommend to use stable 0.88. For this you need a yum versionlock list.

This is wrong, remove the spaces

Code:
nano / etc/yum/pluginconf.d/versionlock.list

Unfortunaltelly I have to leave space because apache modsecurity plugin on that host doesn't allow usage of system paths like "/etc/*" so I can't write them in my blog posts

Code:
cd / && nano etc/yum/pluginconf.d/versionlock.list

Re: MATE Desktop for fedora 16 / 17

hello all ,

Since the updates to 1.4.1 (sat 11th) I have some "dependency"
problem .

First I lost the use of yumex , so I tried with yum yesterday and now.

It seems some package wants to install libmatecomponent.i686 0:1.4.0-5.fc17 and therefore some other .i686 , because this is a
x86_64 install on Fc17_LXDE .

As it says on the last line after the shell command :

Error: Protected multilib versions: libmatecomponent-1.4.0-5.fc17.i686 != libmatecomponent-1.4.0-8.fc17.x86_64

I suspect the problem with yumex is related with this one ,

so I hope some one has a hint ,

Thanks to all for this work on Mate desktop in the Fedora world !

Use:

Code:
yum --setopt=protected_multilib=false update
and

Code:
yum --setopt=protected_multilib=false install package

Example:

Code:
yum --setopt=protected_multilib=false update libmatecomponent

If you have fedora-packager group membership there are still some un-assigned review requests.
