Dropping internet connection while downloading

I'm using F17 x64

Whenever I try to download using a torrent with the Transmission program,
after a while I lose my internet connection until I reboot.

Everything else works ok, but Linux (F17) is no good to me if I cant transfer files
using torrents.

I dont want to go back to Windows, but I dont know how to solve this problem.

Thanks for any help,
-Areal

Dropping internet connection while downloading

I can't offer an intelligent elegant solution to this but ..
It is something that has frequently happened to me for large, say more than 500 meg files.
Typically transmission lasts about 30 minutes before slowly dying.
Switching the modem off and back on again usually brings transmision back to life.
It is a minor inconvenience in my case as it only happens occasionally when getting a distro image file.

Re: Dropping internet connection while downloading

Some routers can get "overloaded" if you have transmission set to have too many connections open at one time.

Try going into your transmission settings and lowering the number of peers per torrent and total number of peers and see if you have better results.

I have no issues at all with transmission going for weeks at a time, and on good torrents, I get around an average of 720KB/sec down on a 6mb DSL connection. It will keep up the fast speed as long as there are good peers sending the data.

Also, you need to limit the up and down speed, so that it never saturates your bandwidth. If you saturate your upload bandwidth, then your download speed will drop to match,, since downloads use the upload path as well to send acks back to the sender.
