Yikes! When she gets the rips, it's plenty bad enough. If I even thought there was a chance of that kind of speed ... I'd put in hardwood floors, and wax them a lot. It's already kinda comical when she zips into the kitchen and hits the lino. And being the twisted guy that I am ... once I tracked her favorite routing ... I put the water dish smack dab in the middle of the kitty-cat skid-pan. <.. ..>

Re: One word ... WOW!
Sheesh!
Ok, folks. One warning, and that's all we're gonna get. After that, the deletions start. <.. ..>
I've gotten a whopping load of grief for expressing my opinion about some of my "less favorite" news sources, and even though I've got the stomach of a billy goat, the hypocrisy here is getting pretty hard to swallow. <.. ..>
So ...
That's the last post I'm going to tolerate bashing Fox News. It's not so much that they are a favorite (they are not) nor that I'm particularly enamoured with them. (which I'm not) The bottom line is that the OP was about one seriously amazing cat, not about your prejudices, nor the venue which brought us the story.
Yeah, you could (and probably will) call me intolerant. But I really don't much care.
It's about the cat. Not the catty/snarky remarks.

Re: One word ... WOW!
Ti's a fabulous thing, and poetry to watch, but consider that very few cheetahs are taken out to the track for a timed run. So this is probably not the fastest cheetah alive today. Then there is th e interesting fact - cheetah genetics show that the population was likely highly inbred and went through a population bottleneck of a few breeding pairs at hthe last ice age. The race is not always to the swift I guess ....

Humans can be impressive too. In this Olympic season so obsessed with that human-designed-for-aquatic-life, Michael Phelps that perhaps it overshadows that people of a less extreme phenotype can do some very impresive things ...
The late Florence Joyner (died of a brain tumor at 38yo) ran like no other person I've seen, Some of her 1988 track records still stand I believe,

Most of the grainy youtube vids don't do her justice, but watching on the tube back then her movement in running was notably different than her competitors - amazing to watch.
Or imagine performing this from memory ...

one of the most difficult piano pieces performed spectacularly by Kigawa. Gotta say I'm not a huge fan of P.Boulez' compositions, but he's a fabulous conductor and brilliant guy too.

Dan, I hope you'll reconsider your decision to cut-off anti-Fox opinions on wibble.
I'm not aligned with either Dem or Rep parties and I surf all the news sources. Fox is no worse than the other news sources in terms of partisan bias however they are the only counterpoint to the bias of others particularly NBC. They do report on a few important stories that left-news fail to report - and that's an important thing. Certainly they focus excessively on pro-right anti-left issues, often beating small stories into the ground, but any fair viewing of NBC, ABC, CBS PBS, and NPR demonstrates an opposite bias. I used to think CNN was close to neutral, but they've have enough pro-left gaffes to make a bias clear.
Those who merely hate on Fox, without also pointing to the equal flaws on the other side of the fence are people with no respect for freedom of speech and the press. People intolerant of differing opinions are the main part of 'the problem' IMO. I prefer that the totalitarian partisans self-identify.

Steve ... I usually don't mind folks calling out the genuine stinker fouls when they see them in the press. Taking potshots at the self-important ID-10-T jerks in the media is a long and treasured tradition world-wide. However, as we saw in this thread, it doesn't take long before that kind of thing dissolves into both bad judgement, hypocrisy and ... eventually politics. None of which were called for, nor particularly welcome, in a thread all about admiring something so unrelated as a big cat with a well stoked boiler and all the right running gear to back it up.
Seems to me that we've got a venue specifically for such agendized and essentially political potshots, where the freedom to out oneself as a charter member of the Kool-Aid Brigade (on either/both/all sides) reigns both frequent and supreme. That's the social groups. Such nonsense is not only allowed there, it's welcomed. That's why they were created.
However, your point does bring up the other side of the argument. Having a whack at the likes of The Huffpo and CNN and MSNBC NBC, CBS is equally silly out here in the open forums. That needs to retire to the Social Groups, too. (Someone please gently remind me of that the next time Brian Ross steps into a steaming pile of stupid, or Ann Coulter once again proves that even a well groomed Afghan Hound can have all the personality of a rabid pitbull ... and I get horribly tempted to point and laugh about it outside of the social groups.)
Although, I'm open to cogent and convincing arguments to the contrary ... but they need to be via PM or a by community discussion in the afore-mentioned social groups.

Getting back to Dans original post and link, the photo almost defines speed, very sleek and streamlined.
