Re: KDE Release 4.9

Will update my Mageia Cauldron system when I get home to try it out. It's currently running KDE 4.8.97 (4.9 RC2) and it works brilliantly so really looking forward to updating to final.

Re: KDE Release 4.9

I have added the kde repo and enabled 'unstable.'

Now wut, without hosing my system....?

I can't seem to locate any instructions for upgrading. Is it just a typical yum update/upgrade?

Edit: Nevermind, it certainly appears that way. Here goes...

It works fine, but I'm not seeing a great deal of difference yet.

Re: KDE Release 4.9

Finally got round to updating my Mageia cauldron install
Code:
[andrew@localhost ~]$ rpm -q kdebase4-common
kdebase4-common-4.9.0-1.mga3
[andrew@localhost ~]$ kded4 --version | grep Platform
KDE Development Platform: 4.9.00
KDE 4.9 is running beautifully on my Mageia cauldron laptop (laptop itself is ~9 years old)

Re: KDE Release 4.9

Yup, no complaints so far and the left pane in Dolphin is a bit saner!

Re: KDE Release 4.9

Agreed. Also love the fact that KWin has a new keyboard shortcut (Alt+`) which switches only between windows of the current application.

Re: KDE Release 4.9

At first it couldn't see my wired connection but after slapping it about the head a bit it co-operated! I will play with it a little more before committing it to my Thinkpad.

Re: KDE Release 4.9

Why is there a KDE 4.8.5 after 4.9.0 was released?

By the way I tried 4.9 from the unstable repos and it lived up to its name - quirky as hell.

Re: KDE Release 4.9

It's been wonderful in my experience. Was instantly snappier and just better all round and I haven't had a Plasma crash in a very long time

Question Re: KDE Release 4.9

Where? I'm still on 4.8.5 on F17, and patiently waiting. I assume I'm missing a repo or something.
