AMD Catalyst and F17 - Will not boot up

While trying to get a game to work I tried installing the AMD Catalyst driver on my Fedora 17 laptop (I did this through the "additional hardware" option in my menu, if that matters), now whenever I boot into Fedora it just freezes at this text style loading bar. So now after a little research I see people talking some kind of bug with the Catalyst driver and Fedora 17 but I haven't see anyone mention how to fix it when you're in my position. I just want to get my laptop working again, I guess I need to go back to the default open source driver or whatever I had before(I don't know what that was). Can anyone help? I really need to get back into my computer today so I can pay my tuition, thank you in advance.

Edit:
Okay, so I just realized I have an ATI HD Radeon 3200 card and that the AMD Catalyst driver isn't supported below like the Radeon 5000 series or something, so now I really don't know what to do. I'm just completely lost now, I don't even know where to try to go from here, I really don't want to reinstall Fedora, please help.

If you can boot from cdrom you can probably do something like

yum erase kmod-catalyst-3.4.6-2.fc17.x86_64.x86_64

(or substitute the name of the package you actually installed).

Just run these commands to go back to the original (mesa) driver:
Code:
yum erase *catalyst*
yum reinstall mesa-libGL

Re: AMD Catalyst and F17 - Will not boot up

When you get back to the mesa drivers, also install the mesa-libGL i686 libraries (some games don't like it if they are no installed but if you have an x86_64 installation, that is; if not you already will have this version installed) and upgrade your kernel to 3.5.0-2. That kernel does some wonderful things with the mesa drivers and older ATi cards. You can get that over on koji, or you can wait for it to make it to the update repositories and do it then.

In case you don't know what koji is, the files for kernel-3.5.0-2 are located here:

Re: AMD Catalyst and F17 - Will not boot up

Hello fellows.

First of all, sorry about my english.
I was in the same situation of our friend josh11. I have an Inspiron (Dell) with a AMD Radeon™ HD 7730M, 128-bit, 2GB and after I've instaled Fedora 17, my system went down in that crash.
I followed the instructions above and now I'm glad to say that I'm reporting this in my beatiful Fedora, that is working just fine.

I'm happy.
Thank you guys!
