Re: fedora 17 Hotspot not Working
First update your system, mine won't work on f17 until I update. What phone are you using and wifii hotspot or USB tether?
---------- Post added at 08:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:47 AM ----------
And restart after you update.

Re: fedora 17 Hotspot not Working
I'm not really sure what hotspot feature you want, as hotspot is a very general term. But my assumption is that you have a wired/wireless connection on your fedora box that you would like to share to other computers/devices? Well there is a solution. Try to follow along with this....
Code:
To enable this, you must follow these steps that I have never used but heard would work:
Install dnsmasq. In terminal you could use su root -c yum install dnsmasq
Make sure your internet dongle supports DHCP and is working.
For your LAN interface (which might be a second network card or a wireless card),
type Alt+F2 and enter nm-connection-editor, hit enter.
select “Shared to other computers” in the IPv4 Settings tab.
Click OK.
Configure all your other computers in the network to DHCP.
For that create a new connection in the network manager and click ok. then connect to that connection in the netwrok manager.

Re: fedora 17 Hotspot not Working
no problem, well if you have the program then just try the following steps.
1. hold Alt+F2, type nm-connection-editor, hit enter
2. select “Shared to other computers” in the IPv4 Settings tab.
3. Click OK.
4. create a new connection in the network manager and click ok. then connect to that connection in the netwrok manager.
I have never tried it myself and can when I get home, in 3:30 hours but for now try above.

Re: fedora 17 Hotspot not Working
Here is a solution that will be far more complete than my explanation. Try to follow this.

Re: fedora 17 Hotspot not Working
Well technically if it did not work because of driver support it would be the broadcom wireless dongle you have. You need to verify that it has the ap mode support. Again I am no network/fedora guru. I googled and found that fedora 18 was trying to add "RealHotspot" feature. Could you post the output of

This enhancement to NetworkManager will enable easy-to-use AP-mode for supported hardware, which solves compatibility problems and provides a smoother user experience.

Re: fedora 17 Hotspot not Working
I usually do it the hard way as I can't persuade myself into trusting anything related to NetworkManager.
You need DNS and DHCP server (dnsmasq), a firewall/NAT ruleset by manipulating iptables, and a WPA authenticator (hostapd). I'm too lazy for now to write a guide though... maybe later. Still you have to make sure the wireless nic supports AP mode.

Re: fedora 17 Hotspot not Working
Sorry, I just noticed this email buried in my emails. Your card only supports.
*Managed
*Monitor
So as it stands It appears your card does not support AP mode. You may have a peek at the various modes here.
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Documentation/modes
Wireless dongles are cheap. I suggest you buy one with Linux support. I usually have to go to places like Fry's electronics to find them or shop online at a reputable store.
