Icons Won't Execute

Just instsalled F17 on my Mac running Vmware. F16 worked like a champ. This isn't my first rodeo...I started with Slackware in 1998. Anyway...when I go to the menu and then go to applications, I select an app
and right click and tell it to put it on the desktop. I done this a thousand times in previous versions of Fedora.
When I go to the desktop and click on the icon...nothing happens! I right click on the icon and check the settings and etc and all seems OK.

Is this some sort of security/firewall thing?

Any ideas?

Jim

Re: Icons Won't Execute

Which desktop shell are you running (e.g. GNOME, GNOME fall-back, KDE...)?

The gnome-tweak-tool package will enable desktop icons in GNOME 3, but your description sounds like you're using another desktop.

Re: Icons Won't Execute

Hey thanks for the reply!

I was running KDE. I have since switched to Gnome. It appears to work in Gnome.
Well...at least it puts it in "Favorites" and it will execute from there. This is really odd behavior for KDE!

Since I am running Gnome...is there a way to put Gnome into a "classic" look and feel
or do I have to live with this "Windows"/"Applications" thing?

Thanks for your help!

Jim

Re: Icons Won't Execute

Try using Cinnamon (install using yum) or MATE Desktop (http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=276286)

MATE is a gnome 2 fork and it might be what you are looking for. Another option is to use frippery shell extensions (http://intgat.tigress.co.uk/rmy/extensions/index.html) ...

Also, visit - https://extensions.gnome.org. Hope this helps.
