GNU Octave for Fedora 17

Well I tried searching octave for fedora 17 x64, but I was not able to get it. I downloaded few rpms, as usual dependencies comes up.

Then I tried downloading it from fedora pkg database but when i select
octave-3.6.1-2.fc17.x86_64 .. it takes me to a page displaying

Not Found

The requested URL /pub/Linux/Fedora/development/17/x86_64/osoctave-3.6.1-2.fc17.x86_64.rpm was not found on this server.
Apache/2.2.22 (Unix) Server at ftp.jaist.ac.jp Port 80
which off course I guess is a server or broken link error.

I cant do yum. Its a standalone system. So I need a offline installer.

Please help. Thank you!!:

Re: GNU Octave for Fedora 17

If you do yum deplist octave in a computer that has internet access, you will know all the dependencies. You could then download the rpms for those.

yum deplist octave

Re: GNU Octave for Fedora 17

Another way, on the other Fedora machine that is on the internet, make an empty directory and change directory to it and run:
Quote:
yumdownloader --resolve octave
This will download all the rpms to that directory that are required for octave

If you just want to see what it would get first without actually getting them, do:
Quote:
yumdownloader --resolve --urls octave
Now you can put the files on a USB key or other disk, take them to the standalone machine, mount the key or disk and run
Quote:
yum --disablerepo=* install ./octave*
from the directory containing the files, the disablerepo is so yum doesn't obsessively try to go on the internet

Re: GNU Octave for Fedora 17

Now that adds onto my misery. As you can see on that "logo" from which system I'v posted...oh yeah its the pathetic windows vista thin client.. coz my sys admin so scared to provide internet on a Linux system... :-(
Now I need to download this in home..copy into a flash drive n bring it here.. but the sad story is that stupid security doesn't allow me to bring in my usb drive... Im choking..
I guess they haven't added it to fedora repository frm where I can download it an install ...
Please do let me knw.. thnkx.

can and is it allowed that you download these necessary rpm's from your windoze client at work?
if that's not possible or allowed: Is it allowed to bring in a CD with these rpm's?

have you even root access on the fedora system? Otherwise you can't install these rpm's. Then maybe it's possible to ask the admin.

then you could just download these rpm packages (for example from http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/).

Save it somewhere on the computer. If you can access the windows partition from your Fedora system or if there any shared directories between the two systems, it should not be a issue to install it then.

But I'm not really sure though, if Fedora can read NTFS partitions by default (I'm to lazy to test it now with a live fedora 17). Or if a additional package has to be installed.

you can install these packages from the directory where these rpm packages are located via (before that you have to mount the windows partition, if it's not mounted by default):
Code:
su
cd /path/to/the/right/directory
yum install octave*.fc17.x86_64.rpm
I think this should work, it should install all necessary rpm's then (if they are in the same directory).
