Hello,
I got a new HP computer and need some help installing drivers for my graphics card and the ethernet card.
The graphics card is a Radeon HD7770, the ethernet chip is an Atheros chip.
Code:
[user@HP ~]$ uname -a
Linux HP 3.4.4-5.fc17.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Jul 5 20:20:59 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Code:
[user@HP ~]$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 683d
[user@HP ~]$ lspci | grep Atheros
04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Device 1091 (rev 08)
I already made some progress on the graphic card problem:
First, I installed the catalyst 12.6beta from the amd website, but I removed it and followed the instructions in the
this guide.
It kind of works, but some thing make me wonder if everything is installed correctly...
Code:
[user@HP ~]$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

I use two monitors and used the Catalyst control center to set them up the way I need them.

When I run glxgears, I cannot see the three wheels, I just get a black window and this fps output. Do you think my opengl is not installed properly?
Code:
[user@HP ~]$ glxgears
14978 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2995.511 FPS
14958 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2991.548 FPS
When running BOINC, it also says 'No usable GPUs found'. I don't know if these problems are related, but I would love to use the GPU for crunching. Do you have any idea, what I might have to chane in my settings?
Besides this, I did not manage to make the Atheros ethernet chip work. The computer comes with a Ralink WLAN chip, that works perfectly. I would love to have wired network access though!
Any help with these to problems is pretty much appreciated! Thanks a lot!
