Question Cannot login as root

I need to add my user name to the sudoers list, then I wouldn't expect to need to do this again. Maybe I'm not doing it right. At the login screen my user name appears and an option to click to type in name. Clicking there and typing root into the user field then pressing enter promprs for password. Upon typing the root password created on install and pressing enter brings me back to the login screen with my user name, How do I login as root?

Question about "General Support Fedora general support. Ask questions here that do not belong in any other forum."

I'm not sure how to identify in what forum this post may belong If a forum moderator moves it I'd presume I'd ne notified by email.

Re: Cannot login as root

by default, you can't login to a desktop as root user.

You need sign in as your normal user, then you can open a terminal window and use su to sign in as root.

or, you can use ctrl-alt-F2 to switch to a console and sign in as root there.

Another way you can accomplish what you need is to sign in as your regular user, then go to your system settings-->users. Select your user, and check the box for that user to be an admin user. It will ask you for your root password to do this.
