I remember either my brother or someone in my class liked this song--I always thought it was nice too.
Got the urge to to hear it, found it on youtube--and to my surprise, the lead vocalist is female--I'd always thought it was a guy singing.

I saw them do this at Central Park in the late 60's--back then, they were the Schaeffer Beer concerts and cost $1 or $1.25.
Further note, though most of the pictures accompanying this song at the link I gave show Beck on a solid body Fender, using fingers, back when the song came out (and when I saw him) he used a Les Paul with pick. Love his playing either way.
