Can't listen to mp3 files

I am running Fedora 17.

I think I added all the relevant softwarre sources such as RPMFusion. But I can't listen to mp3 files
with any of my audio programs. I keep getting an error message about a missing mpeg-1 level 3 (mp3) decoder plugin being needed. I think I dded all the plugins I could find. I used the Personal Fedora 17 web page, which has always worked for me in the past.

Any suggestions for what to do?

Re: Can't listen to mp3 files

What program(s) are the plugins for?
What program are you using?
Did you read the fine print at RPMFusion site?

Details, details, and more details.

I can't listen to mp3 files using the movie player or rhythmbox. It turns out that I can listen to them using audacious.

Odd, mplayer always works for me (though you don't specify which movie player you're using.)

Well, just to make sure - you have gstreamer-plugins-bad installed?

Try this

Code:
rm -rf ~/.gstreamer-0.10
Now restart totem/rhythmbox.

I think OP is referring to totem and not mplayer (or did I not understand your statement right?)

Re: Can't listen to mp3 files

The OP said movie player, and I too think they mean totem. I don't know if totem is supposed to play music--the one or two times I've used it, I found it problematic so replaced it with either mplayer or vlc.

You can download (free) Fluendo's mp3 decoder. Easy to install, and I have had no issues with mp3 playback (with different music players) on F16

Totem does, normally at least, play music. In Fedora menus it is termed "Movie Player".

Re: Can't listen to mp3 files

Ummm.., details as pointed out earlier. If I assume he's done as suggested, then I suspect we're looking at a KDE application relying on xine's libraries. But DM's autoplus normally grabs it. So...?

From a terminal, paste the output of
Code:
rpm -qa gstreamer*
rpm -qa xine*
