Re: Time to re-think multiple monitor systems?

For those of you who live in the US, and want a better understanding of what PBS/NPR etc. is all about, and are willing to put a little effort and honest research where your pre-conceptions/possibly erroneous assumptions currently are, I recommend going down to the studios, (usually located on a college campus ... go figure) and volunteering for a few weeks to get familiar with the projects, the people, the concepts and the pitfalls/pratfalls.

Don't just dip a toe in the muck and run screaming from the room. Actually hang in there through one or two fund raising cycles. Trust me. What you see, hear, overhear, and experience will add a new immeasurable dimension to your understanding of both the art, the business, the agendas and the mindsets involved.

Probably one of the most critical take-away lessons you may acquire will be directly related to the attitude a great percentage of these people have for both those from whom they beg money, those for whom they program, those who do not donate/pledge, and for anyone whose views even slightly deviate from the PBS/NPR political/social/ideological norm.

It really is quite an eye-opener.

Yeah, they only have dumb stuff like Nova and Masterpiece Classic. I mean, who cares about science and literature?! We want stuff like American Idol, Jersey Shore, and Survivor -- you know, the good shows we get from our corporate overlords!

There is good corporate programming, just those aren't them.
