Question Question about whats better Driver for my AMD card

hi guys i have a question about what the better driver is for my video card

I have a AMD HD7770

and its using the following

[mike@Linux ~]$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 683d
[mike@Linux ~]$ glxinfo | grep -i vendor
server glx vendor string: SGI
client glx vendor string: Mesa Project and SGI
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.

i thought there was a better Driver opensource for AMD ?

i can not get AMD's proprietary driver to work as i want so i want to make sure i am running the best open source driver i can get

is the above driver the one i should use if not can you please let me know what to do to update

thanks

Fedora 17 - 32Bit

Re: Question about whats better Driver for my AMD card

Vmware? Is this a virtual machine or something?

The free radeon driver is usually installed by default.

To install the ATI proprietary driver install rpmfusion repository and
Code:
yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree-updates-testing --enablerepo=updates-testing install kmod-catalyst

That would be a 'Southern Islands' chip. Very recent.
What kernel are you running? I'm not sure where mesa/3D stuff stands with those chips just yet. Xorg radeon feature matrix lists southern islands mesa features as work-in-progress or todo all the way down.

The vmware stuff is the "softpipe" driver. 3D-on-CPU.
