I agree. Having applications being able to access the internet anytime they want is just asking for security problems.

I don't want anything to access the internet unless I tell it to. Anything else is just asking for me to block it so it can't access the internet at all.

What's the big deal? I need to reboot Linux when an update pulls down a new kernel.

I don't need to reboot my Mac everytime I pull down an update. Most of the time, I don't.

People who want to trash software should really know what they are talking about.

[If Mac users don't want to let Software Update tell them when they need to upgrade, Apple makes its upgrades available for downloading and installation whenever someone gets around to it. That's a good idea Fedora should copy.]

I might be mistaken, but I thought this could be achieved through the Software Settings GUI and by using yum? Unless I'm misreading what you mean...

And for those updates that can cause a problem, what is so hard about a logout?

Still no need to reboot.

Yep, sure can.

I was just annoyed because the OP quoted from an article that cast Window's and OS X's update in the same light.
