Where in the world is.........Livna????

Does anyone know what has happened to the Livna repository as if I do use "yum update" I get:

Error: failure: repodata/repomd.xml from livna: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
( I removed all the other error messages as I had to many hyperlinks!)

If I use the software update utility I can update with out any hassle and if I fiddle with the software setings utility Livna seems to be offline where I had it previously enabled.

I am curious to know why as searching the forums appears to yield no clues and the Rpmfusion website has no news either.

Thanks

James

Hi ,

It seems that Livna is not really reliable:

rpm.livna.org in the past provided many useful packages that those distributions rpm.livna.org supports did not want to ship for one reason or another. In 2008 rpm.livna.org merged with two other package repositories into RPM Fusion. All packages have been moved there except one that RPM Fusion for various reasons didn't want to take. Hence rpm.livna.org will remain running to ship just that package. rpm.livna.org is fully compatible with RPM Fusion and all other Fedora add-on repos that don't ship the package that rpm.livna.org ships.
There has been no need for Livna for years now.

Livna only hosts the libdvdcss package for encrypted DVD playback. Once this package is installed you don't need the repository anymore. I think it will no update either. Livna is often times down.

Just as info, Livna is one of three repositories that merged info to become RPMFusion. http://rpmfusion.org/
Come to think of it (ancient history), also included, but not mentioned were Dag & Dries. Again, ancient history, but Livna was the "chosen son" for Fedora, but seemed to have lots more outages than Dag, my favorite.

Hrm, I never knew that Dag was part of that--I just use the rpmforge (now repoforge) for RHEL6 and clone packages.

As far as I remember last time I had to grab it libdvdcss is now available from atrpms. (I had some vague impression that livna had passed that on to atrpms, but from this thread, it seems that I'm wrong with that.)

Dag & Dries weren't part of RPMFusion, but made sure they were in sync and don't have their own packages for recent versions. http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/
