Re: error with sata drives

So what exactly is the problem?

Your DVD drive doesn't like to IDENTIFY itself, but is it still working?

Apparently some DVD drives don't like the AHCI mode of your sata host adapter.

What kind of motherboard do you have?

Does it have more than six sata ports or can you configure some of the sata ports in ide mode rather than AHCI or RAID?

Re: error with sata drives

Mine is a Intel DH67CL ATX motherboard. it is on AHCI mode. it has like 2 sata6gbps and 2sata3gbps ports.
I am trying to find a error which goes like "xfer error ata4.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x100)"

and got it :
Code:
Jun 19 05:44:50 localhost kernel: [ 11.614408] ata4.00: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x100)
Jun 19 05:44:50 localhost kernel: [ 11.614469] ata4.00: disabled
Jun 19 05:44:50 localhost kernel: [ 11.614483] ata4: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x800000 action 0x6 frozen t4
Jun 19 05:44:50 localhost kernel: [ 11.614541] ata4: irq_stat 0x08000000, interface fatal error
Jun 19 05:44:50 localhost kernel: [   11.614598] ata4: SError: { LinkSeq }
Jun 19 05:44:50 localhost kernel: [ 11.614655] ata4: hard resetting link
Jun 19 05:44:50 localhost kernel: [ 11.918799] ata4: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310)
Jun 19 05:44:50 localhost kernel: [ 11.918810] ata4: EH complete
What is wrong here?

Re: error with sata drives

Can you try a different sata cable and port?

You might have to disable AHCI if your burner doesn't like it.

Or use the port with IDE/sata compatibility mode.

Re: error with sata drives

Try to connect the DVD drive to the (internal) red sata port.
