Re: F17 Nvidia guide
Hi Secipolla:
Did that. Back to 640 x 400 display, no other options to change resolution in settings.

I'm wondering why I am having so much trouble.
I only installed:
Quote:
|
yum install akmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs
|
And then updated. Then updated grub2 via Fedora-Utils.
I'm a little stumped over this. I got nvidia working in Fedora 13, 14, 15 and 16. But I'm not sure where else to go with this one.
Should I be specifying the full path to the nvidia driver in my xorg?
GLX Gears was giving me:
Quote:
spinifex@mothership ~$ glxgears
48312 frames in 5.0 seconds = 9662.278 FPS
48293 frames in 5.0 seconds = 9658.521 FPS
|
So the frame rates are up by over 7500 fps so nvidia is loading.
How can I specify usable monitor resolutions in my xorg. (all my old Xorgs are long gone).
X Rand R says:
Quote:
xrandr
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 175, current 640 x 480, maximum 640 x 480
default connected 640x480+0+0 0mm x 0mm
640x480 50.0* 51.0 52.0 53.0 54.0 55.0
640x400 56.0
640x350 57.0
576x432 58.0
512x384 59.0 60.0 61.0 62.0 63.0
416x312 64.0
400x300 65.0 66.0 67.0 68.0 69.0
360x200 70.0
320x240 71.0 72.0 73.0 74.0
320x200 75.0
320x175 76.0
|
But my monitor is a brand new Korean Catleap that supports 2560x1440 native. That is the resolution that nouveau defaults to.
EDIT:
Found your post http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1584620 ... Working through it.

Re: F17 Nvidia guide
You can try to set the resolution through nvidia-settings.
Another way is to exit X and run nvidia-xconfig, it should detect you monitor properly and set the resolution.

Re: F17 Nvidia guide
Ok I hope my issue is an easy one. I fallowed the guid all worked awsome on several of my computers. One in paticulare with duel monitors and graphics cards is kind of hosed. In adjusting things after the install I tried twin view mode and restarted, thats when things didnt work out well. Gnome now goes into fallback mode, and even though I've removed one of the monitors and tried to reconfigure with "nvidia-settings" it wont seem to fix the issue of the system being stuck in twin view and gnome in fall back mode. Does any one have any ideas to assist. Relative info below.
Thanks

OK... a fresh install of Fedora 17.. I hosed the last one stuffing around with xorg and nvidia drivers.

nvidia-settings wouldn't provide me with the resolution I require. I was capped at 640 x 480 (on a 2560 x 1440 LED monitor). It was unusable.
nvidia-xconfig auto detected and outputted the following xorg.conf.
PHP Code:
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 295.53 (mockbuild@builder1.ovh.rpmfusion.lan) Tue May 22 21:15:15 CEST 2012

Driver "nvidia"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "Videocard0"
SubSection "Display"
Modes "nvidia-auto-select"
EndSubSection
EndSection
I've also tried the 'additional drivers' in system settings from the menu in Gnome 3, but to no avail.
Xrandr gives me now (which is an improvement on my previous post).
PHP Code:
[root@mothership ~]# xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2560 x 1440, maximum 8192 x 8192
DVI-I-1 connected 2560x1440+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 597mm x 336mm
2560x1440 60.0*+
DVI-I-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
It's crazy. Nouveau autodetects and works almost perfectly bar the screen tearing when I try to play hi-res (1080p) videos ... but Nvidia, with all the coding and experience of a graphics card manufacturer, is unable to auto detect a simple screen resolution. I'ts got me stumped.
I'm down to editing xorg.conf so that when I try to install the nvidia drivers again, at least I can edit it manually to see if it works.
Now, a working nvidia xorg.conf anyone. Please post them so I can see what is going on with those who do have nvidia drivers working on their system.
I'm running Nouveau again if anyone wants to know.
Suggestions please. It's got to be something I'm doing wrong.
My monitor does have trouble with EDID... like it just doesn't give them. It's a Korean Yamakasi Catleap.
I just want to imput the screen res manually. A working xorg I can copy anyone?

Re: F17 Nvidia guide
AFAIK (which isn't much) xrandr doesn't work properly with the NVIDIA drivers (it doesn't have all the required features or something like that).
As you said, your monitor didn't send any info so there's no "Monitor" section in your Xorg.conf
You can create one by checking your monitor's manual for the supported resolution/refresh rate and then generating a modeline with the cvt command.
Check this post http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpo...0&postcount=11 but don't put the last "Mode" line he put there, only the "Modeline".
Other simpler approach you may want to try before is just add to the "Screen" section, before 'nvidia-auto-select' another mode like '1600x900_60 +0+0'* (would be "1600x900_60 +0+0;nvidia-auto-select").
* a resolution/refresh rate you know your monitor supports (check the manual).

Your card isn't supported by nvidia any more (rpmfusion hasn't packaged it for fedora since F13/14).

Re: F17 Nvidia guide
Hi guys,
I am now running Fedora 16 64b with nouveau driver.
Code:
rpm -qa *\nvidia\* *\kernel\*|sort;uname -r;lsmod |grep -e nvidia -e nouveau;cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
zsh: no matches found: *nvidia*

cat: /etc/X11/xorg.conf: Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type
Code:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GF106 [GeForce GT 555M SDDR3] (rev a1)
So, here is the thing. I've followed this tutorial. when I reboot, I have this message :
Code:
Failed to start LSB: Builds and install new kmods from akmod packages
See 'systemctl status akmods.service' for details
So here I go:
Code:
systemctl status akmods.service
akmods.service - LSB : Builds and install new kmods from akmod packages
Loaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/akmods)
Active: inactive (dead)
CGroup: name=systemd:/system/akmods.service
The weird thing is that, if just after the yum install akmod-nvidia I do a:
Code:
akmods
Checking kmods exist for 3.4.2-1.fc16.x86_64 [ OK ]
so the compilation seems to be ok.
but when the pc reboots, the same command line (in single mode, I have to do this otherwise it machine is just stuck at the systemctl stuff) produces a
Code:
akmods
Could not find files needed to compile modules for 3.4.2-1.fc16x86_64
any ideas ? Please ask me if you want any more information.

Re: F17 Nvidia guide
Thanks for this.
I have my dual monitor in a usable state after upgrading to F16 and the nvidia drivers.

How do I tell if my opengl/glx is enabled because it is doesn't show up on my nvidia-settings?
Oh and is it safe to update now that my driver is properly installer according to this guide?
Because I know updates can sometimes screw up the drivers.

It's okay for anything I need heavy graphics for i'll use ubuntu11.10 till I figure out how to fix it, that are or ill downgrade to a earlier viable fedora.
That's why I put that version ubuntu on my system cause I knew the graphic driver worked.

Try overwriting your old xorg.conf (a empty files section is a issue)
Code:
su
cd /etc/X11/
cp nvidia-173xx-xorg.conf xorg.conf
