Fedora 17 installed and not reacheable

Installed F17 on sdb (System 7 on sda)

2 SATA drives

super simple install...checked "create bootloader" on sdb

only place to check

Rebooted, no dual boot showing
(1) system 7
(2) F17

rebooted hitting the F12 key and selected a drive from a column of devices.

Both drives have the same “serial #”

No matter which one I chose, I still got MS System 7

I've exhausted the few choices I have.

Identical problem with F16

Only way I got F16 was through preupgrade

Re: Fedora 17 installed and not reacheable

The Rescatux disk (http://www.supergrubdisk.org/) can simplify reinstalling grub/grub2 without chrooting.

There have been a few threads on this issue and particular cases have defied logic. Quirky, buggy bioses are suspected, and even quantum mechanics has been blamed.

Re: Fedora 17 installed and not reacheable

after installing F17 1000000 times

rescue cannot see it

also
a dual boot should be simple(it has been in the past)

install shows the two HDs and one selects the target HD

and moves it to the right. There is a check box for "write boot")

on the HD selected.

Uncheck it and get an error before you even start.

Why have this option anyway?

Re: Fedora 17 installed and not reacheable

bingo!

Dell Optiplex 990

2 500 GIG SATA HDs

Windows 7 on 0
Fedora 17 on 1

How to do it:

(1) in bios SATA info check "AHCI"
(2) install W7 and then F17
(3) when installing F17, remove the check box for LVM

(3) then log into F17 and

su -

grub2-install /dev/sda
