problem with mouse

I have this problem from time to time, and it has cropped up again with Fedora 17.

In evolution, or when shopping at Peapod, I find that when I click on something, it acts as if I clicked twice.

In evolution, I open a message window I don't want. In Peapod, I end up ordering 2 or more of an item without meaning to.

I experimented with Sysem Settings > Mouse and touchpad and tried various different combinations.

Any suggestions for settings to try? Is there anything else i can do?

It is possible it is my equipment,: either my keyboard or mouse or possibly just me.
