Fedora 17 (Pre-May 29 2012 Beta) Low Disk Space Warning

My USB stick space seems to be consumed by something. It's got a FAT32 partition and some mobile programs for windows 7 which amount to about 4 gigs. The total size of the stick is 64GB (Sandisk Cruzer). I nondistructively installed the F17 image using LiveUSB Creator and gave Fedora the entire rest of the stick.

The message I get after running F17 flawlessly and with Flash 11.something for a while is:

" Low Disk Space

This computer has only x-amount of disk space remaining.

Examine Ignore "

Enough ignores leads to the inability to launch anything even when my Disk Usage Analyser is reporting that I've only used 16.5 GB and have another 51.8 GB available!

The first couple of times it happened I uninstalled some needless programs and the warning disappeared. I don't know what else to uninstall. I checked the bugzilla database and couldn't quite find what I was looking for. I have a Lenovo B575 with an AMD 64-bit dual processor running win7, 4 gigs of RAM.

Is the official post-May 29 F17 release free of this problem?

Thank you to all you Linux Masters of the known universe.

Hi Iron Sun,

Are you using a persistent overlay?

When I installed F17 I believe it would only do about 4 GB of persistent overlay. I am not above reinstalling the system and securing more space for PO.

Is there a folder collecting temporary stuff and holding on to it like downloaded videos, etc?

The persistent overlay has some limitations and when it becomes full the usb will no longer boot. You can check the status of the overlay with:
Code:
su -c 'dmsetup status'
If you run into this issue you may be able to recover it. See this link for more info: http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/LiveOS_...erlay_recovery

Hope this helps,

Re: Fedora 17 (Pre-May 29 2012 Beta) Low Disk Space Warning

Thank you Andrew. I ran the command and got the following:

live-osimg-min: 0 8388608 snapshot 2456/2456 24
live-rw: 0 8388608 snapshot 3957448/8386560 15408

It's French to me. No matter. I have to make time to read the manual. BTW, the Sugar Labs read is an interesting one. Also, my daily message is showing that I have a lot more space now (from 77 MB to 178 MB) without me doing a thing - go figure!

Off to read the manual. I'll let you know how it all goes.

I solved the problem by installing the post May 29 official stable release.

Thanks.
