Right click desktop/terminal and Launch terminal shortcut?

In Fedora 17, how do I setup the following two things which are related to using the terminal?

1. I'd like to get the right click the desktop, then click terminal to start a terminal. This used to be nautilus-open-terminal, but I installed that and it didn't seem to work.

2. How do I setup a keyboard shortcut for launching a terminal? There used to be a "Launch Terminal" in the gnome keyboard shortcuts pref panel, but I don't see it there now?

It works. It is just that in GNOME shell desktop handling is disabled. Install gnome-tweak-tool and enable desktop handling. You will be able to do what you are describing.

Open gnome-control-panel, go to Keyboard and click on the shortcuts tab. There you can customize any shortcut that you like ..

Hope this helps.

To be more specific, In the shorcuts tab, choose the custom shortcuts and then click the '+' button in the bottom. Give whatever name you want and in the command, give gnome-terminal

Thanks. Got both to work. I had to restart my pc for the "Open in Terminal" to show up in the desktop right click menu.

Not necessarily. Press Alt + F2 and give r as the command. That will restart the gnome shell. And all your tweaking are applied without the need to restart. And most importantly, all your open programs are unaffected.

Unbelievably, I did know about and do that restart trick thing, but it didn't work, so I just restarted everything. Maybe just a logout/login would have done it also, I don't know for sure though.

Right. It didn't work because it isn't gnome-shell that needed to be restarted, but NAUTILUS.
killall -9 nautilus would have been more appropriate.
logging out and then back in would also work.
