nvidia widescreen resolutions

Why do I only have 1920x1080 as my choice of widescreen (16:9) resolution? I want to also see a lower 16:9 value like 1280x720. All of the lower choices I have are 4:3 only.

The reason why I want a lower option is for wine to see it as well so that when I run a game like Diablo 3, I can choose a lower resolution to improve game performance.

my specs are:
F15, Gnome 3
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G96 [GeForce 9600M GT] (rev a1)
wine 1.5.3

Here the things I have tried:
1. Emulate a desktop resolution in wine, the game worked fine and saw the 720p resolution but I can't play in fullscreen. It's just a small 1280x720 window on top my 1920x1080 actual desktop size.

2. I tried the steps here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Res...ed_resolutions and use gtf and xrandr to manually add 1280x720 but didn't work.

What are my other options? Is there a way for nvidia-settings to detect all possible 16:9 resolutions and not just the highest 1920x1080?
