Fedora 17 has a anti-cow and bull name

I don't think the name Beefy Miracle is a good name for community made distro. There are many people in the world, who won't eat animal flesh, so for them that name would be very distressing. There are countries in the world such as India, whose people won't even think of killing a cow. Some of these Vegans might say that they are using Fedora 17, but never a Beefy Miracle.

7.3 Million Americans Are Vegetarians and an additional 22.8 Million Follow a Vegetarian-Inclined Diet!

It won't be a miracle to the cow or the Bull, would it?

I am an Indian, I don't kill cows. But I like beef.

For that matter only 10 % are vegetarians in India.

Re: Fedora 17 has a anti-cow and bull name

I think Beefy in this context means big and stong, large proportions, more food for thought (many advanced programs compared to 2 years ago.).
If it boots with grub2, newer kms, newer xorg, gnome-3-shell, newer gcc, lvm, ext4(e2fsprogs), NetworkManagers-galore, ..

one can use ldc with llvm, several cloud componets, iscisi, ...
virtual machines,

and many, many, more.

What's next? Masses of people complainning about breast feeding?
It's not the thing, or the place,it's the person.

It's all between ones ears.

Gee, I can't even remember what are the Fedora release codenames after their release dust settles down.

I mentioned India because it is the largest country, other than China in Asia. The Vegans in India is between 20-42%, from strict Vegans to those eating eggs. People-wise, it would be 240 million to 508 million.

USA's population is 311,8 million, so you can imagine the amount not eating animal flesh only in one country!

Is a hot dog a miracle, I don't know. None of the cows and Bulls get into that hot dog don't think so. No one is asked to kill cows & bulls, but if you eat animal flesh, you are a part of those, who kill them.

Try not to eat animal flesh! I used to, but stopped and feel very healthy.

Beefy miracle is a sorry name for a very good distribution!

Just imagine those 7,3 million Vegan Americans and those 500 million Indians, who would frown to use Fedora 17 just because of its name!

Hi Ariya,
you do aware that you are too late to voice your concern and you are also at the wrong forum to make your concern heard. FedoraForum is a user forum, not the FedoraProject itself.

I am sure that the word beefy does not cause people distress. You are miss understanding it anyway, in english beefy had nothing to do with beef, except to mean something that is big, full and/or strong, like a bull.

It is a bit silly to complain about the code name of something, it has never been a problem in the past. I do not remember alcholics or those that don't like alchol being distressed about Fedora 5 and 7.

Re: Fedora 17 has a anti-cow and bull name

Your first comment could be duly noted for some future reference in one's mind. But what is this insistence for a second comment/answer on this vegan story? Is this the place for advocacy of your personel remark? This is a forum for a Linux distribution. If you feel hatred about their naming error(!), you can always have such freedom to move to other distros with Meerkats, Geckos or just with numbers. Please no more hassle about that...

Re: Fedora 17 has a anti-cow and bull name

egemet, he replied to hadrons, it wasn't a 'second comment'. BTW, vegetables are good for you (and for everything else, specially if organic).

Ariya, 'beefy' is just something that means 'wholesome'. It's, like many words, derived from past habits. Language evolves all the times so next time you think about it, it means something else.

And don't ask about what sausages are made of ;-)
The vegan ones are probably the best

Hmmm...I know what beefy is in English. Big, full and/or strong, like a bull, as you say. It is still a bull, as you might notice. The drawing in http://beefymiracle.org/ does look happy, even though the hot dog doesn't look beefy. This web site screams: MEET YOUR NEW GOD!

I wonder the calf, the cow or the bull would be happy to be in the middle of a bun with all kinds of sauce on it...

By the way, an elephant also look very much big, full and strong, even though it eats only vegetation...

Okay, let's drop this discussion. I like Fedora 17, beefy or not!

OK, OK... if you are attempting to put bulls into hotdogs, that is a tough road to follow. Market calves (mature beef stock) would be better. And yes, on a beautiful afternoon, with the bbq going, with family and friends, it is a beefy miracle. That is the best way to start, with a couple of hotdogs, then on to the main course of your favorite smoked beast

On a larger cosmic note, life is balance. Check out the ideas of the medicine wheel, or maybe watch the Lion King
