Re: TexLive 2010 in Fedora 13/14

Yeah, I think installing from the DVD or iso image is the way to go. TeX Live just doesn't fit well with Fedora's packaging system, at least the way it's currently constructed. There was a thread about that here.

Re: TexLive 2010 in Fedora 13/14

Can somebody update me the situation of TeXLive in Fedora 17? Is it suffering from the issues mentioned above too?

F17 still ships TexLive 2007. So I imagine nothing's changed

$ latex test.tex This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.4-1.40.13 (TeX Live 2013/dev)
restricted \write18 enabled.

kpathsea: Running mktexfmt latex.fmt
I can't find the format file `latex.fmt'!

This problem recurs every few months, as mentioned here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=718364. Deleting the old format used to fix it. Now it is broken for me more completely than before. So, yes, it is broken on F 17.

Okay, fixed with a yum remove 'texlive*' and sudo rpm -i http://jnovy.fedorapeople.org/texliv...ase.noarch.rpm then sudo yum install texlive, and finally sudo yum install texlive-collection-latex\*. Perhaps a small price to pay for a working modern LaTeX.

Re: TexLive 2010 in Fedora 13/14

The instructions I posted above for using TeXlive 2010 from /usr/local/ also work in Fedora 17.
In my case, since I had installed TeXLive under Fedora 13 into /usr/local/, it was immediately available after my upgrade to Fedora 17.
