i need help on codecs

on information about the different codecs

#1)which ones provide the best quailty
#1-part 1)
which ones are open source
#1-part 2)
which ones are propiatry

#2 which closed source codecs can you find the source code to online

pm me for that info

and where to get it

i just dont know anything about the open source codecs which proved the best compression which ones provide the best quailty without loosing any quailty in the encoding

(loosless)?? idk

when i encode i want to keep 100% quailty while at the same time keeping file size to the min

Look, I'm no expert but if you're talking about music then a recommended codec is flac.
It's open-source, lossless and has good compression, it seems.

I just tried easylife, which hadrons123 suggested to install MS fonts. There is a section on codecs. Please go to easylife web site and download that app.

Have a look at that. It explains a little.

Without knowing what specific codecs you're wondering about it's really hard to answer your question. Different codecs have different qualities; there really isn't one that's better than the next one. You don't have a lot of choice with codecs, either. For example the codecs for playing MP3s and DVDs are proprietary, so it's not like there are open source alternatives. And with open source codecs, there's often just one codec available for each format.

As for quality, look for lossless codecs. FLAC is one of them I know for sure.
