How to Install Firefox 12 on F14

Google's Gmail advises I am running an old version of Firefox (installed ver is 3.6.24), and I should upgrade to a new version of Firefox to ensure new Gmail features will work with my browser. I've downloaded firefox-12.0.tar.bx2 to my desktop, and uncompressed it with tar xvf. I can't find any instructions on how to proceed, and I can't find the usual configure file to start installation.

Can anyone assist with how to install Firefox 12 on F14?

TIA,
Jon

Remi has Firefox 11 already packaged for Fedora 14

Or, you can extract the FF12 binaries you downloaded from Mozilla and run firefox locally under your user name. Extracting the tar would create a firefox folder on your desktop. You might want to move that folder under your /home/user folder. Then, right click on the desktop & create a launcher for the firefox executable in the /home/user/firefox folder.

Thanks, Bob. Why has this been moved to EOL? Very presumptuous of you. Maybe you should be moved to EOL.

Well, that may happen of course. However, since you apparently didn't notice the descriptions, F14 has long-since reached EOL status and all new threads on versions that are no longer supported are to be put into EOL. As the description says:
Quote:
This is a Forum to discuss problems and workarounds for versions of Fedora that have passed End of Life.
Just as info, we created this sub-Forum so that people who are running older versions have once central place to monitor for threads. The idea is to get you more help, more quickly, not to isolate you.

Re: How to Install Firefox 12 on F14

Dear User,

The answer is with you, you only need to extract the FF12 binaries you downloaded from Mozilla and run firefox locally under your user name. How "Extracting the tar would create a firefox folder on your desktop or in your home user folder. i.e /home/your name folder. Then, copy firefox browser icon and right click on the desktop & create a launcher for the firefox executable on your desktop.

Just Click and go you will find firefox 12 running in Fedora 14. To confirm make selections if you have installed any add-ons and go after your firefox loads click help about button and you will find that firefox is up to date.

Kind regards

Sheikh Talha
