Crazy flicker on Macbook Pro

First off, congratulations to the whole release team, F17 is one of the first versions of linux to actually boot nicely in EFI on my macbook, and its really purdy. But I unfortunately can't use it because when I start up, the backlight on my my MBP (3,1) flickers. Flickers is too nice of a word really, the backlight turns completely on and off several times a second, seizure inducing anime style. Any idea whats up?

Another thing to note is that this flicker affects the frambuffer during boot and on virtual terminals, as well as X11.

Re: Crazy flicker on Macbook Pro

I feel like this is a known issue, I'm sure I've read it described before. However, I can't find it in Bugzilla, so can you please file it? http://bugzilla.redhat.com . I'd file it against the kernel, since it affects framebuffer (it may actually wind up being in the bootloader, but we'll see). We should assign it to mjg59, so post the URL here when you've filed it, and I'll assign it appropriately. thanks!

Re: Crazy flicker on Macbook Pro

Yeah, I'm sure I read something about it while looking up a completely unrelated aspect of EFI booting, but now that I actually have the problem I can't find anything about it, of course

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=825497 Here's the bug. Thanks for all your help

Hmm, I'm beginning to suspect it may have something to do with KMS, which is handled by the nouveau driver. However, if I boot with the nomodeset option I get no video at all, it just stays frozen on the GRUB screen.
