I'm used Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora Linux i686; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 to User Agents Swicther.

Re: Fedora Useragent
Forum useragent testing.
Please ignore this post.
<.. ..>
Ok. If anyone wants their user agent to accurately reflect their F16 system here on the forums, install the user agent switcher extension to Firefox, then add an entry for F16, and include the following in the string.
Quote:
|
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Fedora/3.3.4-1.fc16 Firefox/12.0
|
Note that you will have to manually update the kernel and Firefox version components yourself.

You can change it yourself if you wish to.

But why did the user agent in fedora is not set to reflect the OS name?
Market share studies are based on user agent, why doesn't fedora have it?

Surely that is a good question for the developers... Sadly they don't monitor the forums, so wen can't answer that question...

Re: Fedora Useragent
I filed a bug report and they said removing the useragent improves security. Bit obscure.

That developer's response to your entirely reasonable request was downright bizarre. First he didn't seem to believe you that other distros include the distro name in the user-agent field, then you gave him an example, and he didn't respond for a month and finally said they don't want to fix it, for a reason so ridiculous it's hard to take seriously. That is just weird.

Re: Fedora Useragent
Testing user agent edit.
Er, that clearly didn't work as expected.

Agreed. The B.S. alarm jangled on his first response, went full bells on the second, and never abated.
I kinda got the feeling he doesn't know how to change it.
