Re: GIMP 2.8 Released
Personally, I haven't had to do any serious work with GIMP recently and even in the past, it was only for small project just for kicks. But I'm still happy with this release nonetheless because of the panels being merged onto one window

Re: GIMP 2.8 Released
I played around with it in F17 and I quite like it (especially the single window mode)!
I made this with it, not bad ay?

Re: GIMP 2.8 Released
The "simple math in size entries" looks very useful.
Haven't been able to understand the GIMP-GUI-hate though. I still think the default multi-window UI is good enough.

Your link reports as "Can't connect to server."
EDIT: Scatch that. Working fine now.

I actually prefer the multi-window UI over the single window. I can move them around as needed to have them where they are the most convenient, yet still be out of the way.

Re: GIMP 2.8 Released
Same here. On a twin monitor system, all the tools go to one screen, and the working image goes to the other.

Re: GIMP 2.8 Released
does anyone know if F16 rpms are likely to be updated with GIMP 2.8?

Re: GIMP 2.8 Released
probably not, since several other packages would have to be updated as well.
You can get the 2.7.5 version, though, if you use the gimp-unstable repo available here:

That's probably the only sane way to work with all the different windows.
With just one monitor it is sometimes very confusing, especially in Gnome Shell.
Luckily they offer it as an option for the people that like the multi-windows.
One thing that I'm a bit grumpy about is the new slider style.
I don't really quite "get" those, maybe it takes some time to get accustomed to...

Re: GIMP 2.8 Released
thanks for the link to GIMP 2.7. However I got this error when trying to install:
Code:
Retrieving key from file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-nphilipp
GPG key retrieval failed: [Errno 14] Could not open/read file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-nphilipp
Any idea why this should have happened?

The thumbnail shows a horizontal arrow slider, but I've got a vertical one, and have just been clicking randomly along the slider where I want to go, and the level snaps straight to it. Uusually I just spin the mouse wheel, but the increments are so tiny I've given up on that habit.
