Can't see tasks in Evolution 3.2 Fedora 16

Running Fedora 16 64bit latest updates

Evolution 3.2.3-3.fc16

I have an issue with the tasks not being visible in the task list. No matter what I try the task list always appears to be blank as shown in the screen shot attached. The task list contains 97 tasks and if I click in the are of the window which should display the list of them a preview of the task appears in the preview pane so the tasks are there. If I hover the mouse over the listing pane I also get a popup with a summary of the task. However no matter what I do the list area remains as shown. I have created different task lists and changed the colour settings but still no joy getting the tasks to appear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how to help, but I can tell you that it works for me. I'm using evolution-3.2.3-3.fc16.x86_64 too.

Are you using Gnome 3.2 or KDE? I have same problem in the latter, but in GNOME it looks alright. Any suggestions?

Drowningman: I'm using Gnome 3.2 & don't have KDE installed to try it out. I haven't used KDE in several years.

You could try running /usr/libexec/gconfd-2 or /usr/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon in KDE (if they're not already running). Other than that, I don't know what else to suggest.

Yup, I thought about that last night, I am using KDE as my desktop environment. I probably should have mentioned that in the first post.

It is definately a KDE related issue. I installed using the Fedora 16 KDE disk. I tried to run the first command and then run Evolution and got the same result. I then tried to run the second command but it was not found. I installed gnome-settings-daemon with yum and tried again, same result. I then ran yum group install "GNOME Desktop Environment" rebooted and logged in to GNOME. Evolution worked as it should. Logged out and back in to KDE and it is still the same. So there is some issue with displaying the task list and only the task list in KDE not GNOME. Mail and Calendar work fine, I just can't see the tasks. I also very much prefer the KDE user environment over GNOME as it suits my style of working much more but there is no KDE mail client which comes close to Evolution in my experience. I have been using KDE and Evolution fine since RedHat 9/Fedora since FC2 and various Centos installs.

Re: Can't see tasks in Evolution 3.2 Fedora 16

Ok making a bit more progess here. I started Evolution from a terminal session and monitored the messages it produced. After the initial informaiton loading the plugins etc I switched from the mail view to tasks and it generated this:

Code:
(gnome-settings-daemon:2773): power-plugin-WARNING **: IsInhibited failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files
Looks like it needs to gnome-settings-daemon running in the background to get the preferences on how to display the task list. Oddly it doesn't seem to need this for calendar and mail.
When I try to manually run the gnome-settings-daemon it looks like it gets ready to start then stops
Code:
$ /usr/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon

** (gnome-settings-daemon:8522): WARNING **: You can only run one xsettings manager at a time; exiting

** (gnome-settings-daemon:8522): WARNING **: Unable to start xsettings manager: Could not initialize xsettings manager.

** (process:8531): WARNING **: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files

** (gnome-settings-daemon:8522): WARNING **: Name taken or bus went away - shutting down
It seems it doesn't want to run at the same time as another desktop environment.
Now I guess I need to find some way for KDE to present to Evolution the information it is looking for in a way it can find it.
I looked around for others in a simialr situation and found some one running Mint in LXDE I think and there was a compatibilty layer package to install but I am having trouble finding what that package would be in Fedora.

Re: Can't see tasks in Evolution 3.2 Fedora 16

Sort of solved it. I updated to Fedora 17 KDE spin this morning and this issue has vanished.
Now running Fedora 17 Evolution 3.4 KDE 4.8 and all seems to be well.
