Installing the flash plugin *still* doesn't let me watch youtube videos.

Hi, I just installed Fedora 16 and am using Firefox.

When I go youtube, at the top of the first page it says "You need to upgrade your adobe flash player to watch this video".

I can't watch any videos on youtube.

So I go through the process of installing it, installing the adobe-release-i386-1.0-noarch.rpm file, everything works out fine, it installs perfectly.

I rebooted my laptop, and go to youtube, and it still says the same thing "You need to upgrade your adobe flash player to watch this video." as though I never even had it installed.

Is there something else I can install?

Brent.

When you installed the adobe-release-i386-1.0-noarch.rpm file, what you installed was the repository where the flash plugin lives. It didn't install the flash plugin. To do that,
Code:
su -c 'yum install flash-plugin'

Do you have noscript and/or ghostery plugins installed and running? I've noticed lots of times I would get bogus "you don't have flash" errors because I had one of those plugins set to be too excluding of the web site in question. Some websites do that to you to be snotty if you have adblock active (they break various functions if they suspect you're blocking ads). But usually in the ad situation they're pretty up front, hulu will show you a guilt page about how they need to show ads to display videos.

Is your problem anything similar to this?

Re: Installing the flash plugin *still* doesn't let me watch youtube videos.

You guys, this is what fixed it:

su
yum erase flash-plugin nspluginwrapper*
rpm -Uvh http://www.linux-ati-drivers.homecal...1-2.noarch.rpm
yum install flash-plugin

I don't know *why* it worked though, I just got it from another thread.

Thanks so much for your responses though.

Maybe can someone tell me why I had to do this? And why just a simple 'yum install flash-plugin' didn't work?

Brent.
