Gimp 2.8 in F16?

Any way to install Gimp 2.8 in Fedora 16 KDE? I'm presently running Gimp 2.6. 12 and would like to benefit fro the newest features.

you could enable the rawhide repo and install it that way by doing

su
yum --enablerepo=rawhide update gimp

If 2.7 is an option, you can download and install http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/...c16.noarch.rpm. Then update gimp to 2.7.4-2.

Oh, and I don't see any gimp 2.8 builds in koji, so the best you could do is "sudo yum --releasever=17 update gimp" and get the 2.7.4 version that's built for F17. But the method I linked above gets you the same version built for F16.

rawhide repository is available as a package.

$ yum -C list *rawhide*

Gimp 2.8 cannot be installed on Fedora 16 due to newer version babl and gegl packages those require newer builds not available on F16.

you can get Gimp 2.7.5 from this dudes repo http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/...gimp-unstable/ for F16

Just compiled it and got it to run (after some time in dependency heaven). The following packages needed to be compiled manually, the rest could be obtained by yum.

pygobject-2.21.3
pygtk-2.24.0

Now that Gimp 2.8 stable has been released by Gimp.org when will or can we see it ? I'm using F16 and am dying to get to use it especially in 'single' Window mode.

I tried F17 but had issues and reinstalled F16 and am back to a stabler environment. I will wait till F17 is done and released.

Any thoughts or idea's are welcome.

Nice to see, but a quick revert back to 2.7.5 for me. With three minutes of use I had to kill the gimp three times. Nice to see a movement towards 32-bit floating integers. I will definitely check this out later in it's development cycle.
