dmraid utility allows you to activate and use the ICH9 and ICH10 series Intel based RAID. It won't enable you to install on ICH9 or ICH10. Haven't found a utility for partitioning ICH9 or ICH10 RAID 0 either. Gparted and qtparted both error.

Ditto. Not working for me either: RAID 0 on the ICH10R, Fedora 10, BIOS rev 1611.

It's not clean and it definitely is not pretty. I was able to get F9 64 bit installed on my Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3r ICH10r based system on an existing "FakeRAID". I initially installed XP, used the floppy driver method and created a 2X500G WDC SATA II RAID0 array. Next I partitioned it and installed Vista Ultra 64 bit to the 2nd partition. I created a 3rd partition for storage, All NTFS.

I'll give the cliff notes version.

Install F8 using the FULL DVD, not a live image. For some reason F8 correctly identifies the "FakeRAID" and even allows you to resize partitions and such. Once F8 is online and operational, use yum or your favorite package manager to update all of your software to the latest F8 versions. Helped me to remove the packages I do not use before that.

Insert F9 FULL DVD installer. Boot to it. I was fortunate. F9 recognized the EXT3 partitions on the "FakeRAID".
Install was smooth. The boot after was a bit nerve racking. X did NOT start. Fortunately network services did start. Yum worked. I updated the packages by letter groups to keep the buffer from overflowing on Yum.
As so:
yum -y update a*
yum -y update b*...

And so on. Lots of library and dependency errors, but as I installed the updates the issues became fewer.
Now the system is Online and operational with the latest 64 bit F9 updates. Compiz and Emerald themes are working wonderfully well, and I can boot this beast to WIndows XP SP3 32bit, Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit, or F9 64bit as I desire.

Worth it?

When my "FakeRAID" allows data reads and writes in Vista at 187MB/s, I find there is definitely some benefit.
Your mileage may vary.

I'm not feeling Foolhardy enough to try F9 to F10 yet with this. That may be a good long time away in the future.

Problems installing Fedora 10 64 bit with ICH10R RAID

It's been very interesting to see some of the replies to the original posting. I'd prefer to avoid flames. People are trying to be helpful, and those of us with this problem really appreciate it. However, many (well-intentioned) people are answering different questions than the ones being asked. (Jaguar07's F8/F9 tips were very helpful. I'm hoping to see if there is a F10 variant - THANKS!!)

The question being asked (re-phrased):
If you have a system with an ICHxyz chipset, and RAID IS SELECTED FROM THE BIOS, and the native system (Vista64) is ALREADY IN USE and DIFFICULT/IMPOSSIBLE to remove/restore, is there a way to install a multiboot configuration of the native MS OS and Fedora Core 10?

Answers to questions not being asked:
A. Do not use the (fake)raid. This isn't helpful. Most of us know that (now). Or, other demands/benefits make keeping that configuration desirable.
B. Remove the existing OS and unselect raid and re-install. This isn't helpful either.

If the answer to the actual question is, "NO, there is currently no way to install a multiboot configuration using the native MS OS and Fedora Core 10?", then answers A & B have more impact. However, I haven't seen any answer yet.

F10 - Not Yet that I know of. F11 not looking good either.

I tried several F10 installs from a wide variety of formats. When the RAID was created under NTFS, no method I have attempted works for F10 installation. I have tried LiveUSB, LiveCD, DVD, CD, custom builds of LiveUSB and LiveCD, my own custom built LiveUSB and LiveCD builds using the latest updates, etc.

I submitted a bug related to this on Bugzilla.redhat.com

The Bug was rolled into a "combined" test bug for ICH10R for Fedora 9, 10 and 11.

I have also installed F9 x64 directly from the DVD. It works correctly also.

Per the combined bug, the build of F11 created yesterday evening is supposed to work. I have not located that build on a public mirror yet. Once I do I will test and update the bug, and at some point update here too.

Not yet.

I attempted with the latest F11 64bit bits on the development mirrors last week. Still no love. I will not be pursuing this issue further as I have invested in an Nvidia based Evga 780i FTW motherboard to circumvent this and some serious performance issues with the ICH10R of the Gigabyte Motherboard I have. Hopefully someone else can pick up the slack I leave.

I have P5Q Deluxe and I tested this by "Fedora-11-Beta-x86_64-DVD.iso" and that was not able to see my NTFS parts in the RAID set at all. I have 2 x 750 GB which I have splitted to two parts on the FakeRAID controller.

But I can see improves on here, previously (in F10) RAID set was not detected at all and two disks were separated.

Now I just need to test it somehow and get confirmed that the F11 installation will not break the XP disks and the multiboot system will be build up.

Try a newer Fedora! F10 is no longer receiving security updates, and newer Fedoras have improvements in RAID drivers and so on.

Hello Afridi and welcome to Fedora Forum. Please start a new thread in the End Of Life forum. There will be no less exposure there and hopefully someone will be able to help you. We strive to keep from resurrecting old threads so I'm closing this one.
