best way or most funny/challenging way to update fedora 16

hi recently i just installed fedora 16 on my laptop
after a week of struggle i was able to configure yum server on it


now when i tried any media player they are not able to play any media file neither audio nor video


what to do ??

i also download one rpm file from the internet of vlc player but when iinstalled it it says something like that architecture not matched

how will i come to know that how to match the architecture of my existing rpms packages with the packages which i willl download form the internet from time to time.
