java does not work

Hello,
I'm not able to install java from sun on my fedora 16 system correctly. (I installed the system from the live cd)
I tried to install it before and I'm not sure if I used the rpm or the self-extracting package. Anyway, the installation was not the problem, but the java tester needed the java plugin for firefox and I wasn't able to install the java plugin.

So today I tried to remove and reinstall it. So at first I removed the jre<version> folder in the java folder in usr.
Then I tried to install the downloaded rpm file as said in the guide by the website, but it said that I already had it installed. So I removed it by
Code:
yum remove
and after that, I didn't get this anymore and was able to install it.

Now I tested if java would be recogniced this time, but it wanted the plugin again and again it didn't work.
So what can I do? Remove every trace of java or is there any other solution?

You have to create the symbolic links as described in the "Enable and Configure" section at the above link.
