Re: Extremely slow networking

Yeah well, I haven't use Samba and its offspring in years, because it is really lame. NFS has improved nicely though.

Re: Extremely slow networking

Samba/smbmount worked fine for years, I had dozens of happy customer companies and hundreds of happy users on campus. These bugs are relatively new. They show utter ineptness of today's open source developers and communicating to them shows their horrible attitude towards the users.
I am ranting, but that's all that's left. We are slowly moving away from Linux due to the above. IMO open source is dead.

Re: Extremely slow networking

I think you are confusing the Free Software Foundation with the Samba project. Samba is just one small project for the support of a specific network protocol used by Windows machines.

Re: Extremely slow networking

Changes to the worst are happening all around "open source". Instead of the university students in the US and Europe, who had ethics and developed responsibly, hordes of hacks from all over the world popped up in the projects only to enhance their resume and make themselves famous to get a job. Once that's done, they abandon the project with all the bugs they introduced. I've been doing Linux work since 1995 and watching how this previously great project is caving in is no fun.
