Where can I get kernel 3.3? And should I?

Hello all,

I am trying to get my hands on kernel 3.3 for linux. I can't find it here:

http://www.kernel.org/

3.3.1 is there, but since I need it for Mosix3, 3.3.1 won't do:
http://www.mosix.org/txt_distributions.html

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on 3.3?

Thanks very much all,
ablen

Have you tried the 3.3.1 kernel?

The latest kernel for fedora 16 is 3.3.1-3 which is available in the updates repo. 3.3.1.2 is also in the repository. So, you should just be able to update using yum if you are using F16. However, the latest for F15 is 2.6.42.12-1.

You can get 3.3 here: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kern...ux-3.3.tar.bz2
You'll have to compile it yourself.

I'm unfamiliar with Mosix, but few programs are so finicky that they work with precisely one kernel version. The page to which you link mentions "Kernel-3.3" and it does not explicitly state that it's not compatible with 3.3.1. Thus, I recommend you just try it with 3.3.1, unless you can find something that specifies you really need 3.3.0 and not 3.3.1. If 3.3.1 fails, you can get a 3.3.0 kernel and compile it yourself. You might also be able to get a precompiled 3.3.0 for Fedora; they were in the repositories a while back, although I gather they've been replaced by 3.3.1 builds. I'm not sure if older versions of software that has been upgraded are kept in repositories.

Re: Where can I get kernel 3.3? And should I?

Hi everyone,

Yes, I tried the newer 3.3.1 and it did not work with Mosix3. I also tried renaming 3.3.1 to 3.3 to see if Mosix3 would take that - it tried to - and then failed.

If I decided to be patient I could wait for an update on Mosix3.

Rupert, I will try grabbing 3.3 from the link you posted. I only need the sources so hopefully that will do the job.

Thanks all!

Get it from koji.

Re: Where can I get kernel 3.3? And should I?

Just a followup.

The koji version of the files:
http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/pa...8.fc16.src.rpm

were not recognized by Mosix3.0.1.0.

The other src file I obtained here:
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kern...ux-3.3.tar.bz2

was recognized, but the installer crashed. ( "Sorry, failed patching the kernel (is it a wrong version?)" )

Rupert,

I failed to mention that I need a 64-bit kernel. Do you think this is the one I need? Or is there another?
