How to suggest new package for Fedora?

Assumed I have a nice piece of software (or know about a nice piece of software), where sources are open and license is GPL. Is there an official process to suggest such a software for use in official Fedora distribution so that it is delivered as a standard Fedora RPM?

Re: How to suggest new package for Fedora?

File a request at bugzilla.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com

You will have to create an account if you don't have one.

Choose Fedora

Choose a component, that is, something relating to the package you want to suggest.

I would use RFE as the subject. (Request For Enhancement)

Then describe the package, where its source is.

Unless you want to create the rpm yourself, in which case, I think it's pretty much the same, but you'd attach your rpm to it. (Might need a sponsor too, I don't remember.)

You go to https://bugzilla.redhat.com, file bug report requesting a package review, and then get told to go package and maintain it yourself if you want it in Fedora.

Re: How to suggest new package for Fedora?

While that may happen, and I can easily understand why it would sour you on the process, from what I've seen, that's not always the case. There is even a thread--I don't know if it's still monitored at all, though--started by a Fedora developer, What packages would you like to see in Fedora.

Obviously, lack of time (on the part of the developers), is going to be a factor, but there's always a chance that someone with the time and ability will help.
