| F18 Development Pretty much exactly what it sounds like it is. This is the place to discuss and assist in the community development of F18, post Alpha.
WARNING: Any pre-release versions, Beta included, are for experienced testers only. Back up all existing data and read all threads in the version Development Forum before attempting an install. Errors can and will likely occur which may include data destruction or inability to boot other partitions on any and possibly all attached hard drives.
While FedoraProject needs and appreciates testers, you must remember to report issues directly to Bugzilla, after checking for pre-existing bugs. |

Other than using gnome-tweak-tool, there is also extensions listed called Desktop icon switch. You can assign your favourite icons to side left dock by pressing super key (Windows icon on many keyboard). Your choice.

Re: Gnome3.6 Features
Possibly a novel feature for 3.6 would be... "Fix bugs that have been around since 3.0 before trying to add new bugs...errr features..."

Re: Gnome3.6 Features
1. Sky drive support - Don't care; removing Documents is one of the first things I do.
2. Gnome-shell caret tracking - Don't care; remove accessibility features.
3. Exchange support in online accounts - Don't care; don't use online accounts to setup calendar and email.
4. Help menu improvement - Don't care; don't use help menus
5. Ibus/xkb improvements - Don't care; uninstalling ibus is second thing I do.
6. message tray improvements - <imokwiththis.jpg>
7. printer panel improvement - good.
8. lock screen improvments - this makes me nervous. a designer is alreay involved and that almost never ends well. look at his interactions with commenters even at a very early stage https://live.gnome.org/ThreePointFiv...res/ScreenLock
9. User panel imrovements - meh. seems to be back end stuff mostly, and I can't see how they can make it worse.

Re: Gnome3.6 Features
hmmm.. that last comment (in the linked page) about not being a good place to discuss this sounds awfully familiar.
I have seen that same comment from gnome developers in the developer mailing list, in the bug tracker, and now on the wiki page.
So, just where is the proper place to discuss things pertaining to Gnome? Over on the KDE site?

Re: Gnome3.6 Features
So now to unlock the screen we need to do all this extra stuff in addition to entering our password? Why? Just because Windows 8 and smart phones do it doesn't mean it's a good idea for a desktop!

Agreed!
It looks nice, sure. But just as the work from which it's inspired from, it's designed for a touch interface. The idea of having to flick up the lockscreen wallpaper before you can enter the password to login is completely retarded, especially for desktop use.
Anyways, I don't know on which planet the GNOME team are from.

Re: Gnome3.6 Features
Ewww, Sky-Drive...
I'm sure some folks might appreciate it and none of us have to use the feature, but still, a little surprising in a free desktop. Richo Stallman will be spitting chips

Re: Gnome3.6 Features
Very small features and improvements again. Not much to get excited about.
How about speeding up the initial opening of the applications menu?
This Totem overhaul actually frightens me, I quite like the current version with the build-in subtitle search and ability to select different sound tracks/languages.
I sincerely dislike IOS & OSx (elegance is ok but I need options to fiddle with), but unfortunately it seems that Gnome is slowly heading that way.
