Screenlets work quite fine on GNOME3, KDE, LXDE etc, probably also XFCE (haven't tried that one). However, I don't have a repository for you, but you can package it yourself.
By now Screenlets is actively packaged only for Ubuntu (up to version 0.1.6 in Ubuntu repos). There was once some automatic packaging for SUSE build system, one can pick it up, you can find it by googleing "universal-applets pkg-scripts".
