Installing Gnome 3.4 on fedora 16!

Just heard the news that 3.4 is out finallyyy.

just wondering how can i install it on fedora 16 and yes i dont want to wait for fedora 17 to try gnome 3.4

I am not entirely sure that you will have a choice.
Compiling up Gnome on your own is generally impossible unless you have a lot of experience, or a ports type system to patch / configure the source for you.

It works the other way too. For example it is generally unlikely you could use an older version of Gnome either.

So all I can really suggest is either wait it out, or pick a simpler window manager if you want bleeding edge GUI stuff on Fedora

I'd suggest you might want to wait for Gnome 3.4 based on the Gnome team admonishment on their release announcement:

you cannot install Gnome3.4 on an older release. you will have to install F17 and pray that it works

though i would suggest waitingf for F18 an bypass F17, i think F17 is gonna be a Disaster. IMO the Kernel is Bug Riddled

The kernel? F16 is using the same kernel as F17, and I haven't noticed any kernel oopses in either.

iv'e seen enough threads on here where people have had problems with the 3.3.0 kernel in F16. mainly Graphix problems

Ah, I've seen those too. Intel graphics may suck at performance, but they do seem to have fewer problems.

I met it before, the kernel panic, and after reinstalling kernel, the problem is solved. So I don't really think the problem is with the kernel itself, maybe the updating process wasn't designed thoughtful enough. Personally I'm looking forward to f17, and sincerely hope that the updating processing would be just as seamly as the updating from 15 to 16.

Wait for Fedora 17 and i think fedora 17 is goin to be more stable then f16
