question about fedora updates

Is there a way i can manually allow updates in my fedora? im really confused as to how my bootscreen keeps records of my previous version of fedora. i now have 3 on the list; ff:

Fedora (3.2.10-3.fc16.i686)
Fedora (3.2.9-2.fc16.i686)
Fedora (3.2.9-1.fc16.i686)
Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda1)

in the beginning i only have 2 choices. windows and fedora but now i have 3 in fedora.
im also having issues with my wireless driver. i also noticed, when i use the latest version; i have to reinstall my broadcom driver to enable my wireless.

so im forced to use the previous version so i could use my wlan; but then i have to change the time and date
cause it keeps getting back to jan 1 1980.

its getting kinda troublesome.

Re: question about fedora updates

the difference between the 3 choices of fedora is the kernel version you can just use the latest version

If this on an older computer (4 years or more) then it sounds to me like the CMOS backup battery needs replacing.

A lot of the wireless drivers are kernel modules, which means they have to be rebuilt every time you update the kernel.

You could look at installing it using the kmod/akmod package in rpmfusion. the akmod package will rebuild your kernel module for you automatically when you get a new kernel. the kmod package downloads a prebuilt module for the kernels that Fedora uses, and sometimes is delayed a day or so after a kernel update. (my choice would be the akmod package.)

@sunny9
Thanks for the instruction. May i just ask; do you keep yours in auto or in manual?

@pablo2
its a 2-3 year old machine; does the CMOS battery anything to do with the internal clock; and more like the reason why my clock resets at 1980?

@dbelton
thanks for the recommendation. ill try using akmod

Re: question about fedora updates

yes, a dead cmos battery will cause your clock setting (along with other settings) to reset every time you power off your computer. Jan 1 1980 happens to be a date that a lot of systems default to when powered up and no clock settings have been saved.
