Assuming your old xorg.conf file works fine for you before, I think all you need to do is to add the "visual" entry into the "display" subsection for depth = 8. Attached is the modified xorg.conf based on your old file. For some reason I see that you have already defaulted to 8-bit color depth in your old file. Anyway, I cannot test this modified file in my system. So, again I wish you luck.

BTW, I have "man nv" and see that this driver does support 8-bit color depth and at this depth it should support all the visual types.
