For better integration of compiz i've build 'compiz-mate-gtk' and 'compiz-mate-conf' from the original compiz package.
My idea is simple, i want only to build these 2 packages from the src.rpm.
The other resulting packagess i've delete during the rpmbuild process.
What I have done in the individual:
-- Migrate the compiz package to mate with the mate migrate script.

-- fixing the resulting /core/gtk/window-decorator/marco.c
-- removing the other resulting packages
-- remove obseletes emerald-themes in compiz-mate-gtk, because except 3 themes the fixed for compiz 0.95 emerald version works fine.

With 'compiz-mate-gtk' and 'compiz-mate-conf' marco instead of metacity is working.
You can switch between marco and emerad if ermerald is installed with the compiz-fusion icon.
Using mateconf to configurate compiz.
One file of compiz-mate-gtk is conflicting with compiz-gtk.
But i don't think that anyone who has installed mate use the gnome-fallback modus.
So it's not a big problem.

I've upload the packages for testing to fedora-mate-desktop-applications-testing.
Also the src.rpm. Maybe Leigh can you inspect them?

In general is this OK for you Leigh?

This packages are only for testing in the moment.

I've upload new packages. Now we have a mate compat section in ccsm.
alt+F1 and alt+F2 keys are working now.
If you've download first versions pls reinstall them, because i doesn't change the version numbers for ompatibility reasons with the normal compiz packages.

For those who have problems with compiz-0.95 like me i've upload packages for compiz-0.94,
include normal compiz packages they aren't anymore in the official repos. They are repuild for boost-1.4.7.
For installation you've to lock the version with yum-plugin-versionlock.
/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/versionlock.list

Edit again:
Problems with compiz-0.9.5 are fixed by simple delete the compiz configuration.
So it's no need to provide 0.94 packages anymore. They are delete from the repo.

The issue still exits.
But i figure out it's the animation plugin what's break compiz-0.95.
I don't think it's a mate issue because in xfce or kde i have the same problem.
Also i have removed my mate compiz pakages, the issue is still there.

If someone is wondering that mate-keyring doesn't store any login-keyring in /home/user/.config/mate/keyrings, here is the workaround.
If you're using gdm as display manager add those lines to
-- /etc/pam.d/gdm

auth       optional    pam_mate_keyring.so
session    optional    pam_mate_keyring.so auto_start

-- /etc/pam.d/gdm-password

auth        optional      pam_mate_keyring.so
session     optional      pam_mate_keyring.so auto_start

-- /etc/pam.d/gdm-autologin

auth        optional   pam_mate_keyring.so
session    optional    pam_mate_keyring.so auto_start

I think this is similar to other display manager.

In mdm i've fixed this in an update.

Just tonight installed Gnome Desktop and then Mate Desktop. I love Mate! Finally an alternative to Gnome 3, which I consider to be too much work, and a disaster to operate. Mate is Great!

Some user in the german forum told me that mate-keyring doesn't store any password for wifi in networkmanager. Also evolution contakts doesn't keep the password.
I've no wifi at my home and do not use evolution.

So can anyone confirm the issue?

Tests with a USB-Stick and networkmanager result in that is necessary switch to gnome-keyring until mate-keyring is fixed.
But this only work if mate-keying is uninstalled.
For uninstalling mate-keyring we have to uppdate first some packages if they are installed
-- mdm
-- mate-deskbar-applet
-- mate-scrreensaver
-- panflute

After uninstalling mate-keyring you've to install gnome-keyring.
In mate-session-properties you found now 4 gnome-keyring daemons.
Kill the mate-keyring-daemon with 'killall mate-keyring-daemon' and log out from session.
After login you'll find the login key in /home/user/.gnome2/keyrings .
'pgrep -fl key' in a terminal will show you the gnome-keyring-daemon.

Then testing wifi and evolution contacts passwords.

It would be very nice if someone is able to test the workaround and give a feedback before i make this major switch in the repo.

Mate works well, I finally went back to KDE last night. The only things I noticed that would be nice, and don't get me wrong here, great job on the software code!
I just couldn't find a theme that would work right. I like a dark, black theme. In KDE I use Elegance for my desktop theme. Everytime I tried a dark, or blak theme in Mate, the pages in Firefox had the same theme, all input slots were black, and the fonts were hard to read.
I couldn't figure out how to work around that, anyone?

No problem, it's the linux way to use de DE what you like.
In general desktop themes from gnome art should work with mate and you can chnge the gtkrc files from the themes.

you infos make it more clear for me what happens in this issue.

For using networkmanager with wifi / umts and evolution-contacts we need gnome-keyring.
In your case /etc/pam.d/kdm starts gnome-keyring.

For using umts-sticks it's enough to disable mate-keyring in mate-session-properties.
But it seems necessary to uninstall mate-keyring if using gnome-contacts.

So, mate-keyring stays in installing mate with 'yum install MATE-Desktop', but i will remove some mate-keyring dependencies in 4 packages. This make it possible to remove mate-keyring. If someone want to do this he has to live with possible consequences.

Does anyone know if the Theme Control Panel is fixed yet? The default themes are not all that, and the ones you can download will not install, or, if they do, the webpages change too. Mate is a great alternative to Gmome 3, just needs a little tweeking.

Yes, I can confirm that. I've made an exercise, installed Fedora 16 with MATE. Evolution asked for passwords everytime I started it, though could not check wifi passwords as tested on a desktop computer. Had to revert back to Fedora 14 as could not stand compiz issues -- compiz 0.9.4 was sa stable, not sure why they have replaced it with buggy and unstable 0.9.52 in F16

For gnome programes like evolution and networkmanager we need gnome-keying and you've to disable the 4 mate-keyring-daemons in mate-session-properties to use only gnome-keyring.
And delete all keyrings in /home/rave/.config/mate/keyrings .
After login you'll find them in /home/rave/.gnome2/keyrings if evolution had create the new keyring.

I'm agree with you about compiz, it makes my desktop unusable in mate. kde and xfce.
But in mate-desktop-fedora-new-application-testing repo you will find 0.94 versions.
The trick to install them is to lock the version first with yum plugin versionlock like this.

I'm not really understand what you mean?
You don't find any mate theme from mate-themes in mate-appearance-properties?
You can't install the gtkrc file or you mean mate-bluecurve-theme?
Mate-bluecurve is fixed and an update is uploaded. (mate-bluecurve-theme-1.0-2.fc16.noarch.rpm)

I haven't spend to much time on this.... but I know that the issue has to do with the animations-plugin... I just disable animation and the issue went away..

by the way...
if i want to install an applet for the panel, where does mate install the applets?

It has to do with the effects on the close animation tab
I took all the effects out of here and everything works fine... I just don't have closing animation but its fine...

Interesting and probably pretty easily explained, but I normally do yum updates through the terminal, which has shown nothing much, HOWEVER today PackageKit kicked in and lo and behold, 50 (count 'em 50) updates, and all MATE-related.

So, is it just chance or is MATE bypassing the normal CLI updates and somehow enabling only PackageKit?

Note that MATE's not shown in the normal YUM update:
